![]() While "Eyepatch Morty" has a small storyline in one other wonderful Season 3 episode, "The Ricklantis Mixup," it is notable that the episode is set at the Citadel of Ricks, the central point of the "Rick and Morty" multiverse. It should be stressed that this episode is a metacommentary on how "Rick and Morty" itself is a fictional construct, and "Eyepatch Morty" appears in a scene that is non-canonical within the show's universe, the ultimate reminder to fans who obsessed over the character that nothing the show does is meant to do anything more than tell a moment-to-moment story. ![]() It seems as if the show is trying to tell us something. While these clones become recognizably malformed, those created by the original Rick are too close to their creator to tell the difference. Season 5, Episode 2, "Mortyplicity," recently showed us that every original Rick in each universe has created an infinite number of clones to use as decoys, all of whom believe themselves to be the original. Several episodes, including the aforementioned "Close Rick-Counters of The Rick Kind," make pointed reference to "universe C-137," which appears to be the primary universe in which the show takes place. Therefore, any set of Rick and Morty could be the focus of any episode which does not explicitly contradict that interpretation. While some dimensions have versions of the characters that are significant deviations from the norm, such as "eyepatch Morty" or "Evil Rick" from Season 1, Episode 10, the majority of them are essentially carbon copies of each other. “The eventuality of all dimensions is that Jerrys’ will be abandoned by their Beth’s.” The upside? Beth and Summer get to work on their relationship.Since that episode aired, "Rick and Morty" has leaned heavily into the ambiguity created by an infinite number of universes with copies of the same characters. Despite her quip in an earlier season “You can dream,” when Morty wonders if their parents will divorce, it seems as if the reality will traumatize Summer after all. “In an episode, we go into Beth’s childhood and see why things are as they are.” Hopefully, it has something to do with Evil Morty.īut history will repeat itself, as the separation between Beth and Jerry will also affect Summer. She’s picking Rick.” And even if Rick’s origin story was fake, Chalke promises at least one glimpse of the real past. After mentioning that this season Beth finally leaves Jerry, Chalke hinted at the future relationship between her and Rick. I spoke with actresses Sarah Chalke (Beth) and Spencer Grammer (Summer) during San Diego Comic-Con about what fans can expect from their characters this year and things quickly took a turn for the hilariously bizarre. ![]() But while Rick (and by extension Morty) have their own problems to deal with, Beth and her daughter Summer will be working with struggles of their own. By the end of said episode, Rick has not only escaped prison but also managed to free some of the most powerful criminals in the galaxy, which can only lead to shenanigans and death. It unofficially began back on April 1 when a surprise episode was released on Adult Swim’s website. In three days, the third season of Rick and Morty officially begins.
